When we first moved into our place back in late 2020, our 10 acres of land had zero fencing—not in the front yard, not in the meadow, and definitely not by the woods. Over time, we put up a bit of fencing to keep the chickens from claiming the driveway as their territory (because, of course, they would).
Now, we’re thinking it’s time to step up our game and explore some fence designs that actually work for us and our property. Keeping in mind that our property is quite rural we’re looking for both functionality and country aesthetics.
If you’re also in the middle of trying to figure out the right kind of fencing for your space, I hope some of these ideas and options spark a little inspiration for you too.

When it comes to choosing a fence, functionality plays a huge role—especially if you’ve got specific needs like keeping a large dog (we’ve got a shepherd) safely contained, protecting chickens or other livestock, or just wanting a little extra privacy.
It is also a matter of taste and dependent on the location of your house and property. While a rural property can certainly benefit from a woven wire fencing, a modern home in a suburb can benefit from a clean and modern look like a glass panel fencing. It entirely depends on where you live and what you wish for.
Each situation can really shape what kind of fence makes the most sense, whether it’s something tall and sturdy, predator-proof, or designed to block out prying eyes. Balancing these factors with your property’s layout and your personal style is key to finding the perfect fit.
