You’d think having ten acres of land would mean plenty of peace and quiet, right? Truth be told, even with all that space and privacy, our home is anything but quiet. My wife and I both work from home, and with two kids in the mix, there’s never really a calm moment to sit down and write in total privacy.
Writing has been a challenge. As I sit here typing, I can hear my wife’s jewelry tools buzzing and clanking away in her work studio. She is a full-time jeweler. It gets loud, and those quiet, focused moments that are so necessary for writing are hard to come by.

For a while now, I’ve been toying with the idea of setting up a backyard shed office—something separate from the house where I can write, research, and work in peace.
